Pasado Continuo y Simple

Pasado Simple - (Simple Past Tense)
El Pasado Simple es un tiempo verbal que se utiliza para describir acciones que han sucedido en un tiempo anterior y que ya han finalizado.
Aquí vemos su conjugación que en el español equivale al Pretérito Indefinido. Observa que la estructura de la oración es similar a la del Presente Simple:

Tanto en la forma interrogativa como en negativa se utiliza como auxiliar DID que es la forma pasada del verbo "TO DO" y acompaña al verbo principal en su forma infinitiva. En las negaciones puede utilizarse la forma contraída de DID NOT o sea DIDN'T. En el cuadro superior se emplea el verbo To Play (Jugar) a modo de ejemplo.
Al expresar una oración en Pasado Simple se entiende que la acción no guarda relación con el presente.
We went to London yesterday. Nosotros fuimos a Londres ayer.

1.She travelled by train to London.
2.She cut the lettuce with a knife.4.The president spoke very slow during the conference.
5.Sarah sang perfectly in the concert.
6.Peter decided to paint the house blue.
9.My dog bit Ann in her leg.

Pasado Continuo - (Past Continuous)
El Pasado Continuo, es un tiempo verbal que describe acciones que estaban siendo realizadas en un momento del pasado al que se hace referencia y que luego continuaron.
El Pasado Continuo se construye con el verbo auxiliar "to be" en su forma pasada y el verbo principal en infinitivo con la terminación ING:

Observa que la forma negativa se construye colocando la partícula NOT después del verbo TO BE. Puede usarse también la forma contraída WASN'T o WEREN'T.

2. Some friends arrived while we were watching television.
3. He was cooking dinner when he received a text message from his girlfriend.
4. They were playing football when the storm began.
5. What were you doing at 3 pm yesterday?
6. Were you studying when I rang you last night?
7. He couldn´t sleep because the baby was crying.
8. She arrived as the train was leaving the station.
9. The children listened while the teacher was explaining the answers.
10. I was listening to the radio when I received your email.
